Sward enhancement refers to management techniques which aim to increase the botanical diversity (mainly the wildflower component) of species-poor grassland. Such work can be funded under the Environmental Stewardship Higher Level Stewardship. Oversowing and slot seeding are two methods of sward enhancement. Other techniques of spreading species rich green hay and planting pot-grown transplants and plugs are described in separate information notes.
