This guidance outlines the purpose, selection, establishment and declaration of Local Nature Reserves (LNRs). It gives examples of how to provide high quality access to the natural environment in green spaces close to people’s homes, and includes case stories of LNRs showing a variety of sites with different emphasis on use of the site including learning, accessible biodiversity and urban situations with access for all. The booklet encourages the promotion and declaration of more new LNRs.
