Following Royal Assent for the Marine & Coastal Act on 12th November 2009, Natural England launched a 12-week public consultation, on a consultation version of its Coastal Access Scheme.
230 submissions were received in response to the consultation including around 1200 individual comments. Of those who offered an overall assessment of the approach set out in the Scheme the majority were supportive. Much of the detail in the Scheme was not challenged, and there were many helpful suggestions as to how we could clarify and/or fine tune aspects of the document. These were analysed both by independent consultants and by Natural England.
This Consultation Summary Report describes the consultation process, highlights the main issues raised in relation to each Chapter of the Scheme, and gives Natural England’s response to them.
The Scheme has now been amended and updated, and approved by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as the Act requires.
