The Pennine Bridleway is a new National Trail, purpose built for horse riders, mountain bikers and walkers. The route is being opened in stages; the Mary Towneley Loop opened in 2002, Derbyshire to the South Pennines in 2004 and the Settle Loop in 2005. The section between the Mary Towneley Loop and Cumbria is due to open in 2011, making a total distance of 200 miles.
