Habitats that contain a mixture of trees, shrubs and grassland generally support a great abundance of wildlife, including rare and declining species. They are a traditional feature of the English landscape and provide colourful displays of flowers, foliage and fruits. The character of this mosaic varies greatly and includes many different habitats. For example - ancient wood pastures; low input upland pastures; small grassfields bounded by hedges; as well as recent habitats created by long termset-aside and Environmental Stewardship.
